Embroidery Workshop: Stitching Histories
Event description
Take home your very own piece of embroidery in this hands-on workshop with Empty.Room, accompanying the exhibition of See Through by Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan at the IMA.
This piña textile installation focusses on Filipino fibre traditions to explore the political, social and economic history of the pineapple across the globe. Piña cloth is handmade from the leaves of pineapple plant and in the exhibition is layered with hand-embroidered symbolism evoking stories, connections, places and histories embodied within the translucent materials.
In this workshop you will reflect on your own family and cultural histories to embroider a motif which tells your personal story. Showte from Empty.Room will teach you how to transfer your design onto fabric and bring it to life with colourful stitches.
All experience levels welcome. Places are strictly limited, bookings essential.
