Stop Alcoa Protest - 28th July 2024
Event description
Jarrahdale Forest Protectors (JFP) is a community-based organisation with a charter to conserve and protect the Northern Jarrah Forest (NJF) in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahadale and beyond in the Darling Range. WE NEED YOUR HELP on the 28th July to send a clear message to Alcoa and the government to stop expanding mining operations into critical habitat and avert an extinction crisis. (See https://theleeuwingroup.org.au. ) This protest is to stand up for nature and preserve a legacy for future generations.
FOR MORE BACKGROUND ON THIS ACTION please see https://jarrahdaleforestprotectors.org/stop-alcoa/
Alcoa have a proposal to mine to the North of Serpentine Dam (Myara North) near Jarrahdale and the Holyoake area near Dwellingup and clear 8,323 hectares of forest over the next 10 years in the Northern Jarrah Forest (NJF) which is a world biodiversity hotspot facing an extinction crisis. Their proposal is under assessment by the EPA and Alcoa have applied for a clearing permit (application CPS 10626/1 ) for "preliminary works" that would execute in coming weeks or months, even before the EPA has assessed the referral of their mining plans. This action is crucial to ensure that they do not get that permission until the EPA has properly assessed the impact of their proposal.
