Event description

Calling All Young Storytellers: Join Our Family Filmmaking Workshops!

Do you have a young storyteller or aspiring filmmaker in your household aged 8-13? Are you looking for a fun family activity these July school holidays? Then we have some exciting workshops for you!

Thanks to Rockingham Centre, there will be two workshops led by the Creator and Director of Rock The Boat Film Festival, Renae Hardie Braovich: a Family Filmmaking workshop and a Stop Motion Animation workshop, both held on each days.

Aimed at the Beginner Filmmaker:

  • Session 1 - Tuesday 2nd July
    • Family Filmmaking - 9:30am - 12:00pm
  • Session 2 - Tuesday 2nd July
    • Stop Motion Animation - 1:00pm - 3:30pm
  • Session 3 - Tuesday 9th July
    • Stop Motion Animation - 9:30am - 12:00pm
  • Session 4 - Tuesday 9th July
    • Family Filmmaking - 1:00pm - 3:30pm

Stop Motion Animation workshops will teach kids the basics of:

  • Storytelling
  • Filming techniques
  • Editing skills (using free animation software available on a parent's mobile device or tablet.)

Workshop Focus: learning the basics of storytelling and stop motion animation, to write, film and edit a short film. (Limit of 16 participants in the room.)

Family Filmmaking workshops will focus on teaching kids (and parents) the basics of:

  • Storytelling
  • Filming and directing techniques (for when interviewing relatives for a homemade documentary.)
  • Editing skills

Workshop Focus: Members of the younger generations learn how to conduct, film and edit an interview or short film featuring family and friends of  older generations telling their life stories. (Limit of 18 participants in the room)

These workshops will encourage any young storytellers in your household to work on a project during these holidays that the whole family can enjoy and be proud of.

Please note:  Due to the limited room capacity and the tasks that will be set to practice filming techniques, we are only able to accommodate the specified number of participants in the room during the workshop. During the Stop Motion workshop, however, one guardian or parent is welcome to observe. We encourage other family members or friends of workshop participants to explore alternative activities during this time to ensure the class can remain fully focused. We thank you for your understanding.
