Stories & Song (Patrick Burgess & friends) @ Humph Hall
Event description
Patrick Burgess is a professional singer songwriter who also works as a human rights lawyer. Inspired by the people he meets in and around the world’s conflict zones, he writes songs of heart felt emotion, songs of celebration and the joys in drinking coffee, or going surfing, and even wild nights with taxi drivers from Jakarta.
Patrick records and performs these songs with one of Australia’s foremost multi-instrumentalists’ “DC” (Paul Di Giacomo) who has toured and recorded with many iconic Aussie bands including Ghostwriters, Tamam Shud, Matt Finish and a host of other Aussie artists.
The evening will include stories and songs from Patrick Burgess current album and his new album due for release early 2024. Patrick will be supported on the night by the Japanese group Fukushima 5 plus the duo Broken Candle.
The night’s performance will be a benefit for Asia Justice and Rights (AJAR,) a leading regional human rights organization. AJAR was founded 13 years ago by Patrick Burgess and Galuh Wandita. You might like to have a look at this ABC documentary about AJAR.
Patrick Burgess' album Ground Zero is available on Spotify, with a new record due for release in early 2024.
He was a professional musician for several years before taking up a career as a human rights lawyer which has taken him to many of the world’s conflict zones.
While working in senior roles for the United Nations and other organizations he continued to write songs informed by the people he met through two decades working in refugee camps, and fragile states in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
