About the New Venue - Bucketty's Brewing Co, Brookvale

There is so much to learn about Bucketty's and its humble beginnings.  It's a family owned business with much blood, sweat and tears making it what it is today.

I can't think of a better place for Story Room Aus to call home, after-all beer and stories are like peas in a pod, they just fit perfectly.

The Food

Check out the menu. You certainly won't starve to death while you listen to some great stories. We are however trying to learn how many people might buy meals, as Nick the owner will open the food truck especially for us.

Patricia Brown

Patricia Brown has had many new beginnings.  She married an ABC journalist in her 20’s and moved to New York for the next 7 years.  She was at the Kennedy Space Centre when Neil Armstrong took off for the moon … but she also witnessed the nation’s anguish following the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy.

Her son Justin was born in New York.  And soon after her return to Australia her daughter Christina arrived.  Chrissie is profoundly disabled … she’s never been able to walk or talk.  This threw the family into completely foreign territory.  But she is a cherished member of the family, and the many challenges were overcome.

When Patricia eventually returned to the workforce, she became an associate to a judge in Industrial Relations.

One night, at 6pm in her Melbourne office, she received a phone call … and in a heartbeat her world fell apart, shattering everything that she had known and trusted before.  Patricia was forced to examine what was left of her life.

So began a very solitary journey, with many stumbles, many failures …  an apprenticeship in life that lasted more than 10 years.

Defining years … of personal and emotional discovery, as she slowly built resilience, focusing on new beginnings and new goals.

Patricia studied philosophy and personal development.  Then, after extensive research, she published her book … RECOVERY:  Learning to Love and Live after Loss.

For the rest of her story, please welcome Patricia Brown, author, life coach and inspirational speaker

Joram van der Starre

Joram van der Starre is an artist, using mediums of painting and photography. He has a unique eye for spotting the beauty in the world around us and he translates this vision onto his canvas. During lockdown he started a project called #choosetoseethebeauty whereby we took photos of things that most people would perceive as ugly but by photographing it from a different angle, it became an image of beauty. This year Joram has been through a journey of self understanding. Joram had an idyllic childhood until the age of 11 when puberty hit hard, leading to feelings of utter self-loathing. A recent incident led to Joram realising the profound impact this childhood trauma has had on his life, physical health and self-love.
