Description

Discover the meaning behind the music as instrumentalists, singers and songwriters share not just the live performance of their work itself, but the heart that beats within it, in a captivating concert where show and tell converge. Bringing unique artists together to a central theme, Story Songs is an engaging afternoon built for music-lovers, and includes a delicious afternoon tea at intermission, with bar available for Sunday sips.

What happens when stories wash up on shore? An event of maritime-inspired songs and storytelling that explores our enduring relationship with the ocean. From working harbours to wild seas and personal journeys, this relaxed Sunday session invites audiences to dive into stories shaped by water, wind and time. Thoughtful, entertaining and full of local flavour — come for the stories, stay for the memories.

Lineup

  • Penny Royal

    Penny Royal

Traditionally, the herb called Penny Royal was scattered by sailors around the decks of ships to calm stormy seas, placed in shoes to prevent weariness, and used for strength, peace and protection. This musical duo by the same name (consisting of John Hickey and Jo Ulrich) doesn't want to be stuck in your shoes, but does offer a bit of calm, easy listening and smooth sailing.

  • Victor Reid

    Victor Reid

Born inland, ten days hard march from any honest shore, Victor passed his youth without so much as a glimpse of the sea’s heaving breast, nor did he lay hand upon a ukulele until his sixteenth year, yet now he brandishes that humble instrument as though summoned by some salt‑stained destiny. His performances have become known for bold musical beginnings, confusing plots and endings that seem to be entirely negotiable. The audience is advised to brace themselves for an experience that is equal parts ambition, chaos, and accidental innovation.

  • Tommy Harrold

    Tommy Harrold

After beginning playing piano at age four and starting formal lessons at five, Tommy Harrold began composing pop/rock music at the age of thirteen. Classically and jazz trained, and with influences from Elton John, Queen, and Rachmaninoff, his music flourished, leading to a deal with Blackburn Entertainment and performances everywhere from shoreside gigs to cruise ships.

  • June Skye

    June Skye

Singer-songwriter June Skye hails from the Shipwreck Coast, Victoria, Australia.  With beautiful, breathtaking vocals and songs of lived experience, she is able to connect on a personal level with her audience by sharing her ocean stories through song.

  • Russ Goodear

    Russ Goodear

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Russ Goodear creates waves with original folk-blues songs about the ocean.  He has performed in various bands at several music festivals, including the Port Fairy Folk Festival and Tamworth Country Music Festival.
