Pasifika Storytellers Collective-Workshops
We are excited to invite you to a day of Storytelling Workshops.
The workshops are free to attend for PSC members plus mob and open to everyone else, with the invitation to contribute what you can for the day.
Our day will look like this:
9.30 Arrival-meet and greet, and morning tea
10.00 Acknowledgement of Country & Welcome to Blakademy with Dr Kimba Thompson.
10.15 "Sharing your Cultural Tale—the Blood, Birth Choice model,"—In this workshop, Tavale Ilalio from Mahana Culture will share a model for participants to explore their own cultural stories, complexity, and identities in an interactive workshop that builds connections and honours the diversity in each of us.
11.45 "Writing for Children" - in this presentation, Marita Davies will share her experience and process of cultural storytelling for children (in picture, live and audio form) while also respecting the space of sacred stories and cultural property.
12.30 Lunch
1.30 "Storytelling & Flow," Natalia Mann will share how she accesses the flow state by listening and drawing from the field of consciousness in her practice, and lead the group through exercises to do this.
2.45 "Slam Poetry"—In this workshop, Tutulu and Rex will share their poetry practice and provide some exercises for the group.
3.30 "Disaffected: Body-centred performance and protest,"—In this presentation, Latai Taumoepeau will share how her practice of storytelling intersects with activism and change.
5.00 close.
These workshops are held with the support of the Flourishing Arts Grant from Merri Bek City Council and Blak Dot Gallery-Blakademy.
