Strategic recruitment and admissions (HDR supervisor development)
Event description
The first step on the journey to HDR student success is a thoughtful recruitment and admissions process. Supervising research students can add value to your professional career, the university's research capacity, society, and of course to the student themselves—but supervision can be challenging if the student, supervisor, and research project are not well aligned.
This session will cover how to approach student recruitment and admissions proactively, strategically, and effectively, helping you maximise the likelihood of attracting and selecting the best candidates.
Topics for discussion include:
- proactive recruitment strategies
- determining what research fits into your supervisory interests
- factors to consider in evaluating applicants
Featuring:
- Professor Angela Dawson, Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Health
- Associate Professor Toby Slade, Associate Head of School, School of Design, and Director of Higher Degrees by Research, Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building
This is one of a series of workshops and modules offered by the Graduate Research School to strengthen supervisors’ knowledge, skills and tools in best supervisory practices. For more information about HDR supervisor training requirements and development opportunities, visit the GRS website.
