This hands-on workshop is for girls aged 11-14 years and is aimed at building confidence in using buses, and walking/biking alone. Every girl receives a free Bee card and parents/whanau receive additional information about how to support their young active traveller. Groups are limited to a maximum of 12 participants and snacks will be provided.

During this short course, participants will learn about:

Using the Orbus network and communicating with bus drivers & other passengers
Best practice in walking/biking safely (day and night)
Making decisions under pressure and how to identify people who can help if something goes wrong
Using technology to help keep them safe

Course Facilitators

Amanda Robinson is a registered teacher who has worked with teenagers for more than 20 years, and continues to work in education. She’s also the General Manager of Queenstown-based active travel charity, The Lightfoot Initiative.

Sensei Pat Quaid is a registered secondary school teacher and owner of the Shukokai Karate dojo in Queenstown.
