UTS Rapido & StreetKind Hackathon - UTS Tech Festival 2024
Event description
UTS Rapido & StreetKind Hackathon
Welcome to the StreetKind Hackathon at the UTS Tech Festival 2024. Join us as we tackle a pressing challenge faced by StreetKind, a non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring the safety of individuals on Sydney's streets at night.
In this hackathon, you'll be tasked with solving a real-life problem faced by StreetKind on their StreetKind.app, which aims to transform Sydney’s night-time street safety. With guidance from the product owner and experts in UX and technology, you'll dive into the problem scope, select a challenge, and develop a prototype solution.
The focus of this hackathon is to optimise the impact of streetkind.app's data collection methods. This involves creating cutting-edge automatic real-time online data collection systems and/or designing interfaces for the public to locate StreetKind sites and roving teams. This hackathon offers a unique opportunity to leverage your skills and creativity to make a tangible difference in enhancing street safety through advanced data collection strategies. Join us at TechFest 2024 for a rewarding and collaborative experience.

About StreetKindÂ
The core of StreetKind’s work lies in positive community interactions and encouraging pro-social behaviours to promote the prevention and control of harm in Sydney’s nightlife. Their street team selflessly gives up every Friday and Saturday night, 10pm to 3.30am, assisting people who are out in the city, and where a night out can take a very bad turn. The team operates from safe bases and roves around the CBD to ensure people can get home safely, especially if they are young or female. Â
StreetKind offers first-aid, re-hydration, footwear, reconnection, phone charging, directions and can accompany individuals who are alone back to local addresses. They currently operate in Darling Harbour and The Rocks, Sydney. Â
