Strengthening edible and community gardening in Wyndham
Werribee Park Community Farm
werribee south, australia
Event description
This workshop will explore ways the Wyndham food community and Wyndham city council can strengthen edible and community food growing. Join us at the Werribee Park Community Farm for a tour, talks, conversations and lunch by the Karen aunties.
James Brincat from Parks Victoria will share how the community farm at Werribee Park got started and how it became the thriving community hub it is today. He will also take us on a tour of the charming and culturally diverse community gardens.
Dr Jonathon Kingsley, Senior Lecturer in Health Promotion at Deakin University will discuss the multiple benefits of community and edible gardening and explore the different ways in which communities can come together to garden.
Tonya Toi from Pacifika Community Garden will talk about how the garden provides a space for the Pacific community to gather, grow cultural food and re-engage youth.
Everyone will have an opportunity to share the challenges and opportunities they experience in the gardening space, and explore ways to collaborate and prioritise action for strengthening urban food growing in the future.
