These workshops give students a chance to share what they’ve learned, practise presenting to an audience, and inspire others with their creativity, problem-solving, and project work.

This Month’s Workshop: Pumping Circuits – Hands-On Arduino Workshop

On Friday, 12th September, our event space will transform into a buzzing hub of innovation as Salvi Guix Verdaguer, a Diploma of Project Management student, presents.

What It’s All About

In this engaging 90-minute session, Salvi will take attendees behind the scenes of his personal Arduino-based project. This project was developed as part of his Diploma of Project Management assessment.

But this is more than just a tech demo. Salvi will share how he brought together:

His background and prior learning
His technical and planning skills
His passion for innovation and electronics
His long-term personal and professional aspirations

About the Presenter

Salvi is currently completing his Diploma of Project Management at Mindroom. With a background in electronics and a passion for tech and innovation, he’s used this assignment to bring his vision to life. He demonstrates not only his practical ability, but his strategic thinking and leadership in project delivery.

Workshop Content

Brief Introduction to the “Personal Project Assignment”
Lap Timer Project (30 minutes)
We’ll begin with a live demonstration of a Pumptrack lap timer built by a Mindroom student. This real-world Arduino project records lap times and displays results. It serves as a practical example to introduce electronics and coding in an engaging, hands-on way.
Exploring Arduino (60 minutes in total)
- Introduction to Arduino (15 minutes)
  Learn what Arduino is: a beginner-friendly, open-source microcontroller platform that makes electronics and coding accessible and enjoyable. You’ll install the free Arduino IDE, connect your board, and run your first simple sketch—known as “Blink”—which makes an LED flash, similar to a “Hello World!” in programming.
- Using ChatGPT for Arduino Support (around 45 minutes, depending on interest)
  Discover how ChatGPT can act as your coding companion. You’ll learn how to write effective prompts to generate or improve Arduino code—for instance, writing sensor connection sketches or debugging logic. This approach provides practical support for self-directed learning and experimentation.
