Studio 45 Live: Ghosts of the Dancefloor
Description
Step into Studio 45 Live...
Two weeks before Halloween, the dead are coming back for one more song.
Halloween has always been queer high holy day. It's the one night a year when the whole country agrees you can be whoever you want, and we've been treating costume as drag and drag as truth for a very long time. Disco came from the same instinct: dress up, turn the lights down, become someone freer for a few hours. And disco has ghosts. The dancefloors of the 70s were full of people we lost, and a lot of us still feel like we're dancing with them.
So this month's show is part costume party, part séance, and part haunted ballroom.
Your host this month is Velvet Divine, who has crossed over and returned as a disco medium. She'll be holding a séance between acts, summoning each performer from the other side of the velvet rope and taking the occasional message from the spirit world. The spirits mostly want to talk about outfits.
Featuring performances by:
Shawna Lutzow
BellissimaBacio
Liz de Lise
Tim Shu
With Nathaniel Fishburn as your announcer, Juniper Danger on sound, and Clara Rose as your kitten
THE VIBE:
Studio 45 Live is a queer disco variety show in the style of a 70s TV variety hour. Think Sonny & Cher, Carol Burnett, and Laugh-In, but queerer than your wildest dreams. Expect host comedy bits, a live announcer, audience participation, incredible performers, and a medium who has a lot of opinions about your shoes.
DRESS CODE: Costumes! Come as a ghost, a monster, a disco icon back from the dead, or whoever you've always wanted to be for a night. Sequins and platforms welcome. Bonus points if you're haunted by glitter.
