Kris Schubert and Lian Wong began playing music together sitting around a piano and singing harmonies to Beatles songs over a decade ago. They formed the band the Safety of Life at Sea while still living in Sydney before moving over the mountains in 2014. Lian plays bass and sings harmonies. Kris sings, writes the songs and switches between instruments to suit. The music is a mix of folky blues and soul. Kind of ’The Band meets Motown’.

Based in O’Connell between Bathurst and Oberon, their studio ’The Boatshed’ has become a local hub for music writing and recording, resulting in two regional compilation albums and individual releases by numerous local acts - many featuring Kris and Lian as session musicians. The most recent Safety of Life at Sea album ‘Let the River Go’ was released in 2021 and features the extended band including their local horn section and backing vocals by Bathurst duo Smith & Jones and strings by Orange performer Amy Viola.

Kris and Lian will perform an intimate duo show featuring songs from across the three Safety of Life at Sea albums, and some new things in the works. Copies of their albums will be available on CD and Vinyl.
