Study NSW Change the Game: Entrepreneurship Program
Event description
Interested in developing your business skills and learning about design thinking so you can bring your ideas to life? Want to help design better experiences for international students?
Then make sure to check out the Study NSW Change the Game: Entrepreneurship Program.
Join us for 2 days of hackathon-style workshops, where you’ll learn the skills you need to start your own business through the design thinking process. This is also a fantastic opportunity to receive mentorship from our community of experienced facilitators, mentors, and founders.
You’ll leave with a better understanding of the design thinking process and be able to further develop your entrepreneurial mindset, skillset, and toolset. As well as the opportunity to pitch your ideas for feedback and be in the running to receive seed funding to help implement your solution.
The best part?
There’s no cost to attend as this is a free extra-curricular program AND we’ll provide all attendees with lunch and snacks on the days of the workshops. You can come on your own or bring a few friends to work together.
These workshops have been designed for both local and international students (who have been living abroad for a minimum of 12 months) to:
- Learn how to build a social enterprise and the skills needed to run a business
- Address and solve issues relevant to international student experience,
- Further develop their business skillset, mindset and toolset,
- Grow your network by meeting entrepreneurs and students across NSW,
- Solve community problems you actually care about
- Have a chance to receive seed funding to implement your business idea!
Learn more about the workshops:
Workshop 1: Thursday 20 April 2023, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
In the first workshop, you’ll work in teams to identify existing problems that international students face pre-arrival and during their stays and come up with solutions to make a change using social entrepreneurship. We’ll define the key problems, explore potential customers, ideate solutions, and provide initial feedback to help progress your ideas.
Workshop 2: Thursday 11 May 2023, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
In the second workshop, we’ll further validate your ideas through research and surveys with real customers, prototype solutions, and pitch your ideas for further feedback.
Showcase: Wednesday 31 May 2023, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Selected teams will then be chosen to pitch their ideas at the NSW Jobs Connect for International Students Employability Showcase, hosted at ICC Sydney. Judges will get to hear each team’s social enterprise idea, see your prototypes, and recognise the best idea with an award.
To participate in the program, you will need to be a student enrolled in an education institution in NSW.
Commitment required
To be selected to present in the final showcase you’ll need to also attend both workshops on the 20 April & 11 May, and be available to pitch at the NSW Jobs Connect for International Students Employability Showcase on 31 May.
