We are living in the beginning of a mass extinction. The fast fashion consumption system is accelerating at unprecedented rates with negative environmental effects. While there have been attempts around the supply chain towards addressing sustainable fashion, the core issues surrounding fashion production remain the same: fast fashion’s success relies upon cheap manufacturing, low-quality garments, and excessive consumption with little concerns towards the environment and people. If we want a cleaner future in fashion, we have to put forward a different system of thinking that allows for systemic change. We need to not just look outward for the answer and the solution but rather return to self. A space where we all exist as interbeings, in interconnection to earth and all life on it. A space where in fact we are limitless and free. A space of consciousness.

Style Activism is the political and social act of getting dressed each day as a creative expression. It is a rejection of the beauty myth dogma and a method to break free from the oppressive body stigma which leaves us feeling intrinsically unworthy, shameful, and ultimately in a state of “NOT ENOUGHNESS”. This drives us towards the insatiable desire of constantly needing more.

This event is part of FRNZ's official Fashion Revolution Week calendar.

Fashion Revolution week happens every year in the week surrounding the 24th of April. This date is the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse.

Rana Plaza, a building in Bangladesh, housed a number of garment factories, employing around 5,000 people. The people in this building were manufacturing clothing for many of the biggest global fashion brands. More than 1,100 people – mostly young women – died in the collapse and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history.

This year, from Monday 18th-Sunday 24th April 2022, we will collectively reimagine a just and equitable fashion system for people and the planet.
