One of the most innovative ensembles in the World Music genre, SUBHIRA QUINTET (from Chile) will be gracing the stage of Zoe's blackheath on Thursday, March 23rd. 

In Australia for the Port Fairy Folk Festival (Vic), Subhira Quintet have played at many of the main world music festivals of Chile, North America and Europe. Their progressive musical style combines world music, jazz, electronica and folk, and their compositions mix rhythms and languages from the native people of South America. 

It is an absolute treat to have them play at Zoe's, they will be sure to get you moving!

More about SUBHIRA QUINTET:

Their director and composer, Subhira (Rodrigo Cepeda), has over 30 years of experience on stage and released 21 albums. He is a President of the Republic National Prize for Music winner, one of the highest recognitions given by the Chilean Ministry of Culture. He is also a professor of composition at the Modern School of Music and director of world music label Mundovivo. He plays piano, analog keyboards, and ethnic percussions.

Also an environmental activist with indigenous Aymaran ancestry, Subhira’s music celebrates the magnificent forests, mountains and other natural places of Chile, and has soundtracked major environmental campaigns. The quintet will be playing a benefit gig for the Bulga forest campaign whilst here in Australia. 

Cello player from Santiago's Philharmonic Orchestra and director of the Foji Strings Quartet, Francisco Martinez. First violin at the Symphonic Orchestra of Chile, Fernanda Jachi Prieto, also plays contemporary chamber ensemble. Ema Morales flute player graduated from ProJazz institute and active on folk, jazz, and pop scene and Rebeka Martínez graduated with high honours at the Modern School of Music on drums former player of important folk, fusion and rock bands complete this power quintet.
