KARUAH

Karuah, from Avalon on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, now residing in the hinterland of Byron Bay, has found a piece of paradise to continue creating. Coining the genre ‘Ethereal Folk’ he indulges the listener through an almost meditative journey with hints of Bon Iver, Ry X and Ben Howard.
Karuah began writing and performing at the age of 13 and over the years has shared the stage with the likes of Angus and Julia Stone, Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, The Rubens, Kyle Lionhart, Iluka and The Veronicas, to name a few. Mainly performing to small intimate audiences where the listener can truly ‘drop in’

Karuah has headlined tours of Australia with his previous releases ‘Wildplum’ and ‘Insight’. Karuah has also supported Kyle Lionhart for his ’So Close’ tour in 2019, and has made the stage at Bluesfest 2019 and South Coast Soul Fest 2018/19. Spending 2020 building his own studio, Karuah has been locked away recording, getting ready for the release of ‘Oblivion’. His enchanting live shows are testament to a lifetime of performing and creating. From
dream gazing, floaty falsetto trills, to sing along a-capella jams, Karuah will leave you with a feeling of floating contentment. Not shy of a loop pedal, his aim is to create an ambient space for the audience through his layered choir like harmonies. Think soulful vocals, stacked harmonies and intricate guitar; woven together to form luscious soundscapes.

With the release of his first single ‘Mother’ from his debut album ‘Oblivion’, Karuah will be hitting the road once more. ‘Mother’ was written during Australia’s Fight For the Bight campaigns in late 2019, and so contains underlying notes of activism and empowerment.

HELEN SHANAHAN

Helen Shanahan is a folk singer/songwriter from Perth, Western Australia.

Helen’s songs ride the joys and sorrows of love and life and draw the listener into an articulate and heartfelt world of story, melody and guitar, through her eyes. Helen’s thoughtful observations and introverted reflections of everyday situations are beautifully captured in her music, which can best be described as contemporary folk/pop with a strong acoustic feel. Helen graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) majoring in voice.

In 2013 she won the songwriting award in the national competition ‘Telstra Road to Discovery’. This competition saw Helen play at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Canadian Music Week, BIGSOUND festival in Brisbane, Queenscliff music festival, iconic New York bar ‘The Bitter End’, and the Americana festival in Nashville.

In 2014 she joined Clare Bowditch on stage for a duet as part of her ‘Winter Secrets’ Tour.  In the same year she was nominated for ‘Best Folk Act’ in the West Australian Music Industry Awards. Helen has provided strong support to Passenger, Matt Corby, The Basement Birds, The Paper Kites, Lewis Watson, Ian Moss, Angie McMahon and Jeff Martin.

In 2018 Helen won the Western Australian Music Industry ‘Song of the Year’ award for her song ‘I Only Hide’. In 2019 Helen moved to the UK where she released the single ‘Unborn’ - focusing on the sensitive issue of climate change and the effect on future generations.

The COVID 19 pandemic saw Helen return to Perth in 2020, and used the time spent in isolation to record 3 songs with Jon Clements at ø2 Studio in Wembley – released through MGM distribution. 2021 has seen Helen learn the ropes of motherhood with her new daughter Bonnie, while singing backing vocals for international artist Tim Minchin and supporting Missy Higgins at the Fremantle Prison.

DUNCAN SAIGE

Duncan Saige is an indie / folk singer-songwriter from Perth / Margaret River, WA. Inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Coldplay, his music glows with infectious vocal melodies enveloped by meticulous guitar arrangements.

His music has been aired and rotated on prominent radio stations like Triple J as well as US college radio networks. He has supported international heavy weights such as Kodaline, Australian favourites like Lime Cordiale and Alex The Astronaut and appeared on festival line-ups such as Falls Festival 2018 (Fremantle) and a sold-out Nannup Music festival.

His live performances showcase soaring falsetto’s, catchy melodies, immature jokes, a live rendition of the Bunnings theme tune and wacky t-shirts.

‘Stay a while with Duncan Saige and his songs will charm you, I promise’
- Dave Ruby-Howe, Triple J
