Suburban Vibes presents - Katy Steele

One thing we love about our winter shows is their intimacy. Just a small lucky crew, nice and cosy in a special space listening to some very special artists and we are so thrilled to get up close and personal with no other than Australian rock royalty, Katy Steele. And we hear she's bringing some friends on stage for the evening.

If there’s one thing that you remember about Katy Steele it’s that voice. Undeniable, ethereal, dramatic and melodic. She’s a one and only. A creative chameleon. A singer-songwriter. An artist with almost two decades in the Australian music industry who continues to impress.Hailing from Perth, WA, from a family of musicians including her father blues legend Rick Steele and brother Luke Steele (The Sleepy Jackson/Empire of the Sun), she has shaped her own brand of music with influences from The Pretenders to Blondie and Fleetwood Mac all the while sprinkled with her love of melodic pop. With a talent for solid songwriting, she’s now forging ahead with an incredible new album on the horizon.

With support by the amazing Kat Wilson, tickets for this show will not last!!

Katy Steele
Quintessential Steele... upbeat, energetic, pop nostalgia. Katy is no stranger to hard work. At 19, and as the lead singer of one of Australia’s biggest bands Little Birdy, she travelled the world building her music career and releasing three studio albums with the band (BigBigLove, Hollywood, Confetti). The success of which came with a myriad of ARIA nominations as Little Birdy continued to make its mark on the music scene. A band hiatus saw her move to New York to work on songwriting and production allowing her to develop and explore her own sound while navigating a personal and emotional evolution. Out of that experience came her first solo album Human. Now based back in Perth and having come somewhat full circle, she is carving out the next chapter of her incredible career.“This new album I’ve been working on comes from a place that I’ve explored musically over and over in my mind. It’s a time for me as an artist to embrace a new chapter. Music is my outlet. I just sit at the piano and let it all fall out. It’s natural for me, even through hard times. That’s why I do it, because I’m meant to do it.” - Katy Steele

Kat Wilson
Described as a mash up of Paul Kelly and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kat Wilson’s sonic brew is infused with hours spent sitting on council verge-collection furniture and playing ping pong. The music is taut, sweet and drenched in the azure of the WA coastline that is a core part of Wilson’s heritage. Add to that lyrics that come from a sharp observational eye and speak with a poet’s knack for creating meaning out of the ordinary, and you begin to get a sense of just what Wilson is capable of.Kat Wilson’s unique and beguiling voice is entirely her own, no comparisons will prepare you for her sound. Her songs effortlessly fuse pop with coastal blues and just a dash of folk, along with the ability to shred on her guitar with the best of them. Know this, and you may just come close to understanding what Kat Wilson was put on Earth to do."The vocal haunts of Kat can be likened to taking a plunge into a wintery sea: bone-chilling but utterly refreshing.” - Joe Harris, Tone Deaf.“When Kat Wilson took the stage, it didn’t seem right for her to give it back.” - The Music.“And then there's the voice. It's dreamy and ethereal, it sounds like summer, and Wilson has the lyrical sensibilities to put it to use telling the sort of observational stories that make you feel like she's singing about and to you.” - Around the Sound.
