Everyone is welcome! In Week 3 of Semester 2, SUDS is facilitating a number of production workshops led by POC creatives and theatremakers. SUDS is invested in the elevation of POC and marginalised voices and experiences in theatre. Our workshops will be run by a collection of old friends and new friends. SUDS Alumni and theatre professionals will speak to their experiences as creatives of colour. We will also have a short discussion at the end of each workshop to discuss the experiences and challenges POC creatives have been facing in theatre and how we can better navigate a safe space for everyone.
Slanted Theatre is an Asian-Australian theatre company established in Sydney in 2021. They have presented full scale productions such as, a world premiere of Short Blanket by Matt Bostock at Meraki Arts Bar, Ching Chong Chinaman by Lauren Yee at Chippen Street Theatre, and Three Fat Virgins Unssambled by Ovidia Yu at KXT bAKEHOUSE theatre. Tiffany Wong, the founder of Slanted theatre and our SUDS alumni are currently directing a show Boom by Jean Tay. They will be bringing in their cast and crew to provide an opportunity for a rehearsal observation at the Cellar Theatre. This is a golden opportunity to have a glimpse of how independent theatre works during rehearsals and learn practical skills in different aspects of theatre.
This workshop is perfect for anyone who is interested in acting, directing, producing, and general rehearsing processes in theatre. Please do not hesitate to sign up!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our festivals officer (Luna) at sudsthewash@gmail.com
Acknowledgement of Country:
SUDS acknowledges that the University of Sydney and the Cellar Theatre reside on stolen land; the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. As a society that exists to tell stories, it is important to acknowledge that stories were being told on this land for thousands of years before British colonisation.
SUDS pays respect to elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded – Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land.
