Dramatising Queer History is a two-part lecture-workshop series on queer storytelling for stage and screen within the genre of historical drama.

It is a fact that LGBTQIA+ people have always existed, and lived full, exciting and insightful lives. A fact that many have tried to hide by controlling queer depictions in popular history. The current surge of interest in hidden queer histories is set to change that. In this lecture-workshop series, Sam Spring – writer of the Hans Christian Andersen biographic play The Fairy Tale of My Life – aims to equip emerging artists with the knowledge, tools and enthusiasm for writing historical drama with queer narratives.

In the second workshop, Sam will lead participants step-by-step through a bite-sized research and creative process to create short scenes of dramatised queer history. Participants will have an opportunity to share what they've written or discovered at the end of the session.
