Sugar Blowing Demonstration with Jade Armstrong

Step into the sweet world of molten sugar! What happens when sugar becomes sculpture?

Join Melbourne artist Jade Armstrong for a free live sugar blowing demonstration at ArtUp and watch as molten sugar is transformed into delicate, translucent sculptural forms.

Drawing on techniques traditionally associated with glass blowing, Jade works with heat, air and movement to shape sugar while it is still soft and malleable. During the demonstration, she will introduce the materials and process, create sugar forms live and answer questions about this unusual artistic medium.

Jade will also share insights into Forbidden Desire, her ongoing series of ephemeral sugar sculptures exploring beauty, desire, transformation and decay. The project has been presented through exhibitions and participatory workshops, including at Science Gallery Bengaluru.

This is a demonstration rather than a hands-on session. If you would like to try sugar blowing yourself, Jade will lead a Sugar Blowing and Edible Flower Art Workshop at ArtUp the following afternoon.
