Sumi-e Ink painting workshop at Matsuri Brisbane 2025
Event description
Discover the beauty of Japanese ink painting at our Sumi-e Workshop during Matsuri Brisbane 2025!
In this 30-minute session, you will be introduced to the elegance of sumi-e through the motif of an Ayu fish and willow tree, painted on a traditional fan. With gentle, step-by-step guidance from the instructor, beginners and art lovers alike will enjoy learning how to express harmony and movement using simple brush strokes and black ink. At the end, you can take your hand-painted fan home as a wonderful keepsake of the festival.
This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to explore Japanese culture in a hands-on way. Children under 12 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Each ticket includes one Uchiwa fan for you to paint and take home. All tools are provided for you to use at the venue.
To ensure a quality experience, there will be only four sessions this year, each limited to 16 participants:
11:30–12:00
