Brunchercize is starting 2024 off with a fan-dancing extravaganza bringing not one, not two, but THREE fan dance intensives to dabble in over the summer!

The three intensives each consist of three 55-minute classes with each class building on what you learnt in the previous class.

You can sign up for one block of one intensives or two, with EARLYBIRD tickets on sale until Sunday, 7 January 2024.

*** Intensive 1: Feather Fan Dance Fandamentals ***

Level: Beginner/Open level

Length: 55 mins x 3 classes

Class description:  Feather Fan Dance Fandamentals introduces you to the elegant art of dancing with ostrich feather fans.

In this 3-session intensive, you will learn the fundamentals of feather fan dance technique including holds or grips, classic poses, and the classic fan conceal and reveal. Each class will build on the skills of the previous week including applying what we’ve learned and putting it into a fun fan dance routine.

Ostrich feather fans and large paper peony dance fans are provided for use during the class.

*** Intensive 2: Silk Fan Veils ***

Level: Beginner/Open level

Length: 55 mins x 3 classes

Purpose: To learn the fundamental elements of dancing with silk fan veils.

Class description:  Silk Fan Veils introduces you to the flowing and joyous art of dancing with silk fan veils.

In this 3-session intensive, you will learn how to dance with silk fan veils starting by establishing a strong fan veil technique base through simple drills and building to a fun choreography. Some of the elements we will focus on include: fan grips, controlling your fans; caring for your fans, fan veil figure eights; fan veil dance drills and a short group routine. Each class will build on the skills of the previous week including applying what we’ve learned and putting it into a fun fan dance routine.

Fan veils will be provided for use in class, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

*** Intensive 3: Feather Fan Dance Fanatic ***

Level: Intermediate level/ Ongoing students

Length: 55 mins x 3 classes

Purpose: For continuing feather fan dance students who wish to expand and refine their fan dancing skills.

Class description:  Feather Fan Dance Fanatic is for students who have previously taken a feather fan dancing class before and wish to build on their skills.

In this 3-session intensive, you will build on your feather fan dance technique learning advanced grips, transitions and feather fan tricks. Each class will build on the skills of the previous week including applying what we’ve learned and putting it into a short fan dance routine.

Ostrich feather fans and large paper peony dance fans are provided for use during the class.

What to wear: bring clothes you can move and dance in. It is suggested that you wear close fitting clothes as lose-fitting tops as feathers. You are also welcome to bring dancing shoes if you wish (ballet flats, chorus or ballroom shoes), but you can also dance barefoot if you prefer.

About your teacher, Rainbow:

Rainbow is an international award-winning Newcastle-based performance artist, teacher and producer renowned for her fan dancing expertise. With more than 10 awards under her rhinestoned belt, Rainbow’s achievements include winner of the 2017 Burlesque Idol Australia Grand Final, Miss Burlesque ACT 2019 and 2019 Miss Classic in the Mx Burlesque Australia competition. She performs regularly in shows and festivals around Australia having recently headlined the Australian Burlesque Festival, the largest touring burlesque festival in the world. She is also a founding cast member of Swamplesque, the Shrek burlesque parody, where she plays fan-wielding villain, Lord F. When not performing Rainbow can be found teaching the brunch-dance hour of power, Brunchercize, in Newcastle, the Central Coast and Canberra or producing Shakedown Cabaret (& Trivia) a cabaret combining two of the greatest experiences in life – trivia night at your local club, and the joys of air travel. As a long-time lover of fan dancing, she cannot wait to introduce you to the joy and art of fan dancing.

Our class and services are designed to help you learn new dance or performance skills or develop existing skills. Your participation in this class may expose you to the risk of physical harm or personal injury. The risk of physical harm or personal injury may arise from, but is not limited to, undertaking physical activity, your fitness level, the equipment used by you, or third-party participants. You agree that physical harm or personal injury may arise from you or another party’s acts, omissions, or negligence. You understand and voluntarily accept any risk that may arise from your participation in this class. You agree that it is your responsibility to only select classes which are suitable for your fitness level and experience. If you are injured, pregnant or have existing medical conditions, please consult your doctor before commencing a new dance class. If for any reason you feel any pain or discomfort during the classes, it is your responsibility to immediately stop participating and inform us immediately and seek appropriate medical attention.

We limit our liability as permitted under the Australian Consumer Law.

You acknowledge and agree that you must act respectfully and considerately towards us and other participants and not do anything to cause harm. If you fail to comply with this, you agree that we may ask you to leave a class at any time.
