About Kylie!
Kylie Cohen is the Biodiversity Officer at Knox City Council. She works alongside volunteers and Knox Environment Society nursery to deliver the Knox Gardens for Wildlife Program. In this presentation she will discuss habitat elements for local gardens, the journey of Gardens for Wildlife and celebrate the amazing volunteers she works with.
Gardens for wildlife project:
The ‘model’ of environmental volunteering in Victoria is constantly changing and today there are many exciting ways to enhance habitat for native wildlife and support positive biodiversity outcomes. Gardens for Wildlife (G4W) is a unique approach that sees volunteers visit residential properties and local businesses to provide advice on incorporating habitat elements, planting indigenous species and managing weed threats. The program was established in 2006 when two community members approached Council with a novel idea. Today, it has been adopted by Councils and Community across Victoria, is referenced in numerous journal publications and is included in Biodiversity 2031 – Australia’s Nature Strategy.
