Summer Series: Garden Party

Join Chicago United Solidarity Project, Global Gardens Chicago, and Women Unite! as we connect our communities through meaningful events and a shared value of caring for all Chicagoans.

On Sunday, August 30, we’ll be hanging out at Global Gardens Chicago for our second-annual Garden Party! We’ll have live music, delicious food prepared by local vendors, tours of the farm, a raffle, and, of course, incredible community.

In an effort to make our events as accessible as possible, we’re offering multiple ticket price points. Please select the option that works best for you!

Additionally, we are offering a ticket tier labeled “Community Member.” These tickets are for those who work in and are part of the global majority and frontline communities and for those who may not be able to afford the cost of a ticket. If you can afford to purchase a ticket for a community member, please do so!

About the Global Gardens Farmers and Food:

Our Amplify! Advocate! Disrupt! event series is an opportunity to invest in our community, a chance to spend money in ways that live out our values. We’re so excited to share more about the food we’ll be having, which will be prepared by three different farmers connected to Global Gardens Chicago. Each farmer will receive a $250 stipend + the cost of supplies.

Thasmin Nasir Uddin: Originally from Burma, Thasmin and her husband Mujib arrived in the United States in January of 2025 and joined Global Gardens’ Market Farmer Program in 2026. They enjoy selling vegetables at the farmers’ markets and bringing their son and friends to the garden. They will be providing three Burmese dishes! While the final dishes will be a surprise, we can confirm two will include meat and one will be vegetarian.

Beda Pradhan: Beda has been in the United States since 2011 and a farmer with Global Gardens since 2012. She is a participant in Global Gardens’ Market Farmer Program, where she enjoys selling vegetables to farmers markets. Beda speaks Nepali and is originally from Bhutan. She will be preparing two trays of vegetarian momos, a Nepali style dumpling.

Celestine: Celestine is originally from Burundi and came to the United States as a refugee in 2008. She comes from a farming background and has been with Global Gardens’ farm since 2014. She enjoys growing many different types of vegetables, including white African eggplant and water spinach, which she was introduced to by our farmers from Burma. She will be preparing tomato soup with African fufu.

About the Band:

Ochin Pakhi, a Bengali folk band, will be providing live music! They'll be performing two sets from 6-7:00 p.m. and 7:15-8:00 p.m.

Ochin Pakhi performs the folk and traditional music of Bengal—the cultural region spanning the nation of Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal—music born of rivers and fields, wandering mystics, and centuries of social struggle. Since 2017, the band has shared this music with audiences throughout Chicago and beyond, with spirited arrangements that weave traditional South Asian and Western instruments.

✅ Global Gardens Chicagos’ bathroom is a porta potty. Unfortunately, there is not an accessible bathroom onsite. 

Sliding-Scale Tickets

Our goal is to make our events as accessible as possible. That’s why we offer sliding-scale options. When registering, please select the payment level that works for you. For guidance, we’ve provided the reference below based on work done by Alexis J. Cunningfolk and Britt Hawthorne.

Option 1: $50

• I frequently stress about meeting basic needs* and don’t always achieve them

• My debt sometimes keeps me from meeting my basic needs

• I am unemployed or underemployed

• I have limited or inconsistent access to savings

• I have very limited expendable income**

• I rarely buy new items

Option 2: $75

• I may stress about meeting my basic needs* but still regularly achieve them

• My debt doesn’t keep me from meeting my basic needs*

• I am employed

• I might have access to financial savings

• I have some expendable income**

• I am able to buy some new items and I thrift others

Option 3: $100

• I am comfortably able to meet all of my basic* needs

• My debt doesn’t keep me from meeting my basic needs*

• I am employed or do not need to work to meet my needs

• I have access to financial savings

• I have an expendable** income

• I can always buy new items

Buy a Ticket for a Community Member: $100

• Can’t make it? You can select the purchase a ticket for those who are part of the global majority and frontline communities

*Basic Needs include food, housing, health care, and transportation.

**Expendable Income might mean you are able to buy coffee or tea at a shop, go to the movies or a concert, buy new clothes, books, and similar items each month, etc.
