Description

The Lambie-Dew Oration is an annual event held since 1958 in honour of Charles Lambie and Harold Dew, the first Bosch Chairs of Medicine and Surgery, respectively.  The oration is an opportunity for SUMS to invite someone who has made a major impact in health to address the student body, faculty and alumni.

This year, we are proud to announce that the 65th Lambie Dew Oration will be delivered by Dr Amanda Cohn, who will be sharing her insights on the intersection of clinical practice, public health and advocacy.

Dr Amanda Cohn is a NSW upper house MP based in Albury-Wodonga and the Greens spokesperson for Health in NSW. She is the current Chair of the powerful Legislative Council portfolio committee for Health. Before her election to Parliament in 2023 she was a GP, working in community health, Aboriginal Medical Services and emergency departments in rural and regional NSW, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Albury. Dr Cohn is passionate about addressing the social and environmental determinants of health, and has been a staunch advocate for equitable access to quality public health care as well as safe and supportive workplaces for health professionals.

The event takes place in the formal surroundings of the Charles Perkins Centre Auditorium, with canapés and drinks provided before the event in the foyer outside the auditorium.
