Event description

Have you ever used the sun to create your own pieces of art? Use sunlight and found natural treasures to create beautiful, blue-toned botanical prints.

In this hands-on workshop, children aged 5–12 will discover the fascinating science behind cyanotypes — a photographic printing process that uses sunlight, water and special light-sensitive paper to create striking blue images.

As they experiment with seeds, leaves and flowers, young artists and scientists alike will explore light, shadow and chemical reactions, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the patterns and forms found in nature.

Perfect for curious, creative minds who love art and the outdoors.

Please note: While our programs have themes, they are child-led nature play experiences. Children are invited to co-create activities they participate in as they explore each program.

Things to know before you attend

Please come prepared, as this program takes place outdoors and will go ahead in all-weather, unless it is unsafe to do so (for example, during high winds or thunderstorms). Children must wear enclosed shoes.

Our drop-off school holiday programs have an adult to child ratio of 1:10. We are unable to offer 1:1 support for children. If you would like to discuss the needs of your child with us, please email education@gsp.nsw.gov.au or assist us by completing the accessibility requirements and behavioural needs questions when registering.

This is a drop-off program for children aged 5 - 12 years. Parents do not attend with children.

We reserve the right to cancel the event in case of dangerous weather or if minimum participation numbers are not met. In these circumstances a refund will be offered. Please refer to our full terms and conditions for more information.
