Discover how composers have drawn inspiration from the past. Benjamin Britten's exhilarating Lachrymae takes inspiration from John Dowland, while Shostakovich's powerful final work, the Viola Sonata Op. 147, contains echoes of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. The program also features Caroline Shaw's In manas tuas, inspired by Thomas Tallis, and Rebecca Clarke's hauntingly beautiful Morpheus.
The concert runs for approximately 60 to 70 minutes, with no interval.
Please note that post-concert drinks and cheese pre-orders closed at 5.00 pm on Friday 28 August. A limited number of tickets will be available from the box office on Sunday afternoon.
