Event description
Sunday Concert Series: The Circling Sun
Sunday 22 September, 6pm
Tickets: $35 / $25 (concession)
In its ongoing commitment to support and provide opportunities for live performance, The Arts House Trust is proud to present the Sunday Concert Series 2024 - an eclectic array of musicians and musical genres showcasing local performers.
Formed in the mid-2000s The Circling Sun is a sonic collective from Tāmaki Makaurau focused on paying homage to progressive Afrocentric Jazz-inspired music.
Stylistically, the band draws influence from African American pioneers Alice Coltrane, Yusef Lateef and Pharoah Sanders whilst fusing it with a love and appreciation of African, Latin and modern musical forms - all combined with a unique South Pacific flavour and sensibility.
The Circling Sun has performed at the Wellington International Jazz Festival, Melbourne's The Eighty-Six Festival and CJC Auckland. Previous residencies include - The Golden Dawn, Xuxu, Las Vegas Club, Ponsonby Social Club and East St Hall.
Featuring members of Avantdale Bowling Club, Ladi6, Dave Dobbyn, Yoko Zuna, Carnivorous Plant Society and more.
