    Event description

    SUNDAY STORY TIME

Welcome to a new format for the Mill Theatre: original stories read by actors with authors, audience, friends, family and industry colleagues.

The Mill Theatre has sought local writers who want to share their compelling, intriguing and original stories for performance. These stories are in a range of formats, suitable for performance by a single actor with a chair and a spotlight.

Curated by the inimitable Julian Meyrick, stories have been chosen for a spectacular night of performative reading by the professional troupe of The Mill Theatre.

More Information on Sunday Story Time Submissions

Sunday Story Time is a new event sponsored by Lexi Sekuless Productions and staged at The Mill Theatre, Building 3.3, Dairy Road, Fyshwick, ACT.

      Who is Story Time for?

Anyone interested in writing, performing, hearing and enjoying stories by local writers and playwrights.

      What’s involved?

Authors submit a story that is between 1 and 20 minutes in length when performed. Stories are performed by either professional actors from The Mill Theatre or the author, if indicated at the time of submission. Stories are presented as performative readings and include a chair and spotlight.

How do I submit my story?

The first step is to pay a $20.00 fee via this booking site. This fee will go towards the following:

      1. Payment for any actors engaged
      2. The venue costs of electricity and event bump-in and bump-out

The Mill Theatre team will contact each submitter with timelines and next steps.

Who decides which stories are performed?

Stories will be curated by Julian Meyrick; professor of creative arts at Griffith University, general editor of the Currency House Platform Paper series and literary adviser at the Queensland Theatre.

      Is there a fee?

Each story submission incurs a $20.00 reading and administration fee. This also covers admission to the show for authors whose stories are selected for performance. You can submit as many stories as you like.

Can my friends and family watch my story be performed?

Absolutely. Tickets for the show are $15.00 and can be purchased at any time from this site

What if my story is not selected?

If there are too many good works to perform in the November time-slot The Mill Theatre will consider scheduling further Story Time events. All eligible submitted stories will be considered for future events.

      What happens after the show?

If your story worked well on stage consider developing it into a longer work then share your script with The Mill Theatre to discuss next steps.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Yes, check out the Terms and Conditions for formatting requirements, the submissions process, and more.

      LOCATION

The Mill Theatre is in Building 3.3, the Screencraft and KeepCo building which is a short walk from Capital Brewing. There are two easy ways to approach the Theatre:

PARK in P3 at the back of the precinct. From there you will see building 3.3 which has a large Screencraft sign. The public entrance is just up from that sign (not underneath it!). Once inside, walk about 5 metres and the theatre is to the right, next to Mojo Guitars.

WALK from Capital Brewing or the Less sculpture into the KeepCo building, pass Ramen Daddy and at the end of the corridor we are on the left.

      PARKING

All parking in the precinct is free with several accessible parking spots in all the parking locations. The best spot to park is P3 at the back of the precinct. If you park elsewhere please be warned that signage and way-finding around the precinct is extremely difficult. Arrive in plenty of time to possibly get lost, possibly be in a bad mood!
