Event description

SUNDAY STORY TIME

Do you have a story to tell? Calling all writers! Get your story out of the drawer and in front of an audience in a safe and new format at the Mill Theatre at Dairy Road.

Sunday Story Time submissions are now open and will close 5pm 17 November. The event will be on Sunday 8 December. On stage there will be a chair and a spotlight, audiences will gather for an informal evening of story-telling. Writers are welcome to read their own stories or an actor can read in their place.

This new format is for any writer. Last year's Story Time received outstanding feedback! It might be your first written piece or maybe it is the first chapter of something you have been working on for some time. Details on length and submission requirements are below.

The most important thing is to get that story out of the drawer!

DETAILS ON SUBMISSIONS

Step one: submissions must be more than 1 minute and less than 20 minutes in length

Step two: there is a $30 submission fee which covers the administration for running this new event. You can pay this fee via the Humanitix site and then your story or text can be submitted to hello@milltheatreatdairyroad.com. No submissions can be read or accepted until the fee has been paid.

Step three: approval of your story or text will come providing the following guidelines are followed:

  1. your submission is more than 1 minute and less than 20 minutes in length
  2. your submission and its content is not unduly offensive
  3. your submission is in a format which can be read by one voice. For example, if you submit a script with 30 different voices then this format might not work for that type of text
  4. you nominate clearly that either you will read your text or you request an actor be provided
  5. you are available on the evening of Sunday 8 December and/or agree that your submission can be part of that evening’s program
  6. writers accept no fee for service or performance for this event
  7. writers accept the event will be organised by Mill Theatre staff and the order of stories and the running of the event will be arranged entirely by Mill Theatre staff
  8. all other terms and conditions as outlined here are agreed to

Cost for submission: $30

Cost for general public to attend the event on Sunday 8 December: $25 tickets (this fee is not for selected writers to pay)

Submissions close 5pm 17 November 2023

LOCATION

The Mill Theatre is in Building 3.3, the Screencraft and KeepCo building which is a short walk from Capital Brewing. There are two easy ways to approach the Theatre:

PARK in P3 at the back of the precinct. From there you will see building 3.3 which has a large Screencraft sign. The public entrance is just up from that sign (not underneath it!). Once inside, walk about 5 metres and the theatre is to the right, next to Mojo Guitars.

WALK from Capital Brewing or the Less sculpture into the KeepCo building, pass Ramen Daddy and at the end of the corridor we are on the left.

PARKING

All parking in the precinct is free with several accessible parking spots in all the parking locations. The best spot to park is P3 at the back of the precinct. If you park elsewhere please be warned that signage and way-finding around the precinct is extremely difficult. Arrive in plenty of time to possibly get lost, possibly be in a bad mood, and remedy that with a drink at our bar before enjoying a smashing show!
