3PM SUNDAY MAY 4
DEATH & THE MAIDEN

The extraordinary string quartet no 14 in D minor by Schubert is possibly
the most important and most loved string quartet in history. It’s paired with
French composer Lili Boulanger’s exquisite D’un soir triste and D’un matin de printemps for Piano Trio.
3PM SUNDAY JUNE 15
BRAHMS & BOSMANS

The Brahms clarinet quintet is profoundly beautiful, sad and sweet all at once. In the hands of Paul Dean and
Ensemble Q the work shines to perfection. Paired with a masterpiece of texture and lyrical intensity by
Dutch composer Henriette Bosmans, her 1927 string quartet.
3PM SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 7
MOZART, BEETHOVEN & CLARKE

Beethoven String Trio Opus 9 No 3 was one of Beethoven’s own favourite
compositions and the foundation for his many quartets. Rebecca Clarke
shines a light on the talents of our Germany based violist, Benjamin Roskams and Alison Mitchell creates
musical gold with a Mozart flute quartet.
3PM SUNDAY OCTOBER 26
PIANO QUINTETS

The series finishes with the universally loved Schumann Piano Quintet in E flat major Op 44 and the exquisitely lyrical Piano Quintet No 1 in A minor Op 30 by French composer Louise Farrenc,
which adds a new soundworld by replacing the 2nd violin with double bass.
