Connection Through Play: A Beginner's Clowning Workshop

In this workshop, we will explore the fundamentals of discovering your own clown. Clowning demands the performer is in touch with their own personal clown, it's impossible to do if you're basing it entirely on someone else's character. Through the red nose and the human medium of play we will begin to explore what it's like to be your true self on stage. No character, no costume, no lines or script to hide behind, just you and your audience staring back. When we really out into the eyes of our audience, we truly discover, that we are all idiots at heart.

ABOUT THE COACH

Rohan Dimsey(they/him) is a neurodivergent, multidisciplinary theatre practitioner from Naarm (Melbourne). Having trained at Monash University (2019) Rohan went on to specialise in clowning and physical comedy by taking on a thesis in the field. Since then, they have performed a myriad of roles both on and off-stage throughout Naarm's theatre scene. Recent credits include Romeo & Juliet - Director; Sound Designer (Grand Koala 2024); A Dirty Kebab - Actor (Plain English Theatre Co 2023); As You Like It - Actor (Australian Shakespeare Co 2022); Poles: The Science of Magnetic Attraction - Sound Designer (Tart Theatre Collective 2022); Chapel Off Chapel and The Bowery Theatre - Various, technician (2020 to Present).
