About the Play
Sunena, the performer; Billie, the director; and Anna, the dramaturg: welcome to the devising group from hell. With the help of a life-sized puppet, three theater-makers embark on a journey of performative recreation. As they dig into Sunena’s past, hoping to mine some material, the question of whether or not they can hold solidarity, resist exploitation, and summon up enough respect for each other remains yet to be answered. Set within the confines of a college studio theater, SUNENA explores the limits of collaboration between three headstrong artists who will stop at nothing to make their voices heard.
