Event description

The Peninsula Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on a Twilight walk from Safety Beach to Dromana Pier return with sunset views, and pizza or fish’n’ chips.  This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria. 

Enjoy Mornington Peninsula’s coastal boulevard from Safety Beach to Dromana with its gentle sandy beaches and clear waters. Beach lovers, boaties and paddle boarders love this section of water. Watch the sunset as you enjoy a pizza or fish ‘n chips (own cost) after a scenic 2 hour coastal walk.

DISTANCE:  8km

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? Beginners to experienced anyone who loves the seaside.  

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy): Suitable for most ages and fitness levels.  AWT Grade information. 

PACE: Steady       

TOTAL ASCENT: Sea level this is a fairly level walk.

WALK DESCRIPTION: 

Approx. 2 hours of walking along the coastal trail from Safety Beach to the end of the Dromana Pier and return. Trail is a mixture of made paths, timber and beach section on the return if the tide is out. Firm sand walking.

MEETING POINT: Meet at 5.30pm for a 5.45pm start. Safety Beach Sailing Club, 185 Marine Dr, Safety Beach. Car parking is available here. Leader will stand near the entrance to the sailing club.  

DIRECTIONS: Google map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MSkrQD....  Carpooling recommended, please contact the leader if you would like to arrange this. A little over 1 hour from Melbourne. However in warmer weather traffic can be slower. Public transport not recommended due to the late finish of this activity.

TOILETS: Yes at the start/end of the walk, and along the way.

WHAT TO BRING

Mandatory:

  • Emergency contact form with medical info.  Download this form here, or get one from the leader on the day.
  • 1L water
  • Backpack
  • Rain/wind jacket (conditions can change along the foreshore quickly and even a simple breeze can feel cold)
  • Personal first aid kit (your health is your responsibility)
  • Sun hat/sunscreen

Recommended:

  • Nibbles if hungry at that time of day.
  • Money to buy a pizza, fish ‘n’ chips or hamburger after the walk

ABOUT OUR CLUB: The Peninsula Bushwalking Club is based on the Mornington Peninsula. We have around 100 members and offer a variety of walks on weekends as well as mid-week, both on the Mornington Peninsula and further afield, generally within a 90-minute drive from Mornington. Walks are often followed by a cafe visit, where one is available nearby. We also offer bike rides, including e bikes, as well as multi-day base camps and back packs from time to time, catering for more experienced hikers, as well as those newer to hiking. We are a friendly group of walkers, welcoming new walkers of all abilities and experience levels to join us.  Visit our website.
