Super-X [VIC]//Refedex//Everso - ALL AGES//Stew Mag//AHEPA Hall
Event description
Join Stew Mag for an all ages Halloween throwdown with a considered and delicious line-up featuring:
SUPER-X [VIC] - dual guitar psychedelic noise assault from Naarm/Melbourne. Super-X's sound is reminiscent of the most aggressive, stripped back shades of Spacemen 3, the affectations of The Stooges, and a touch of krautrock's relentless, driving momentum. It's a potent mix, executed with all the practice n polish the Naarm circuit demands and Stew is honoured to bring this three piece up for their first ever QLD show. Have been spinnin' their debut LP since it came out a couple years back and excited to hear their new material.
REFEDEX - dusty and charismatic mid-tempo Meanjin/Brisbane noise punk. Maybe one of the bands who most embody the local underground sound, led by frontman Harry Byrne (formerly of excellent acts Clever, Per Purpose et al.), Refedex is a distinct amalgamation of Australiana mood n grit - the offset guitar abuse n spitting vocals conjuring images of Gareth Liddiard's infamous whammy attack, the gorilla drum thumpin' and dangerous bass lines sounding like an especially sweaty feedtime. Featured on the first 2022 cover of Stew Mag, sick band.
EVERSO - wah'd neo-psychedelia straight from the centre of Meanjin's bustling youth circuit. Pick a couple chords and ride em into the sunset, all about the attitude with this music and Everso has truckloads. Meanjin has a dense recent history of Brian Jonestown Massacre fans making bands (The Flamingo Jones, Nice Biscuit et al) and it's a treat to see young guns with a fresh and energetic take on the palette. Everso's wall of sound is built with great taste, and Stew is v keen to see their garage-y sensibilities take the stage.
This gig will take place at AHEPA Hall, in West End, on unceded Turrbal land.
