By 2050, antibiotic resistant infections are projected to become the leading cause of death worldwide resulting in approximately 10 million deaths annually.
Professor Jon Iredell is a specialist in infectious diseases and microbiology at Westmead Hospital, Professor of Medicine and Microbiology at The University of Sydney and Director of the Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology. He and his research team at WIMR are exploring the use of phage therapy, a practice that was used for centuries until antibiotics became widely available. He will outline WIMR’s ground-breaking research into how local sewage sampling may be key to solving the looming superbug crisis.
Presented by Powerhouse in partnership with WIMR as part of Sydney Science Festival 2022. Free. Bookings essential.
