SYDNEY: Supporting and exploring birth family connections for children and family - Gail Johnston - Face to Face
Event description
Supporting and exploring birth family connections for children and family
Facilitated by Gail Johnston - independent psychologist.
Please come and join us once again with independent psychologist Gail Johnson for our Exploring connections for children and family- Our role in supporting repair training.
The cycle of ‘Connection, Break and Repair’ is an important therapeutic concept when understanding the attachment needs of children who have had disruptions to, and hurt in the context of their connections with their birth families. Foster parents and practitioners have a role to play in supporting positive and safe reconnections for children with family and important relationships. In doing so, children have the therapeutic opportunity to experience repair in their relationships, make sense of their stories, and receive reassurance, comfort and support from their caregivers.
This session is an opportunity for caregivers to come together and reflect upon the factors that contribute to successful family time and ways we can acknowledge and take care of the vulnerabilities that children, birth and foster families may come into contact with as they connect with each other. We will explore children’s responses to family time, and ways to support them before, during and after family time. While keeping our focus on the child and creating opportunities for meaningful connection with birth family we will also consider the support needs of foster parents.
Please note this is a face to face training in our Botany office (morning tea will be provided)
If you require CYPSS support please let your social worker know ASAP.
