The Australian Young Onset Dementia Special Interest Group is hosting this FREE webinar on supporting young children and adolescents with a parent with young onset dementia.

Recent research in Australia found that 52% of respondents with young onset dementia had children living with them at some point following diagnosis, yet only 12% were offered appropriate support.

This webinar will explore the impact of young onset dementia on children and families from a range of lived experience, research, and clinical perspectives.

Resources and ideas will be shared to help expand the supports available to children and to inform future innovation and service provision.

Confirmed speakers:

Julia Lawrinson - a writer and presenter living in Perth, Western Australia who wrote the book Before you Forget. Julia's family has been directly impacted by young onset dementia and her lived experiences will be shared.
Robyn Bett - a clinical psychologist and researcher in Perth, Western Australia. Robyn will present on the "Keeping us in Mind" project (Brightwater) that worked in partnership with families and professionals to understand the impact of young onset dementia on children. Resources collated and curated through this project will be showcased.
Natalie O'Brien - a speech pathologist who works with people with young onset dementia, supporting communication and connection with children and grandchildren.
Chelsea Brown - a family engagement counsellor at Dementia Australia. Chelsea trained as a counsellor and psychotherapist and will talk about the ways she supports families and children in her role.
Sam Grigg - Sam will share her personal experience of having a father diagnosed with young onset dementia, providing insights into the impact this had on her family, as well as the supports received and those needed in the future.
