Supporting consumer health literacy
Description
Health literacy describes the ability to get, understand and act on health information. Without good health literacy, it can be very hard for people to look after their health, care for family or friends, access health services and navigate our health system.
This free training presented by HCCA’s Health Literacy Officer and Multicultural Liaison Officer will teach you how any worker can help consumers build their health literacy to get better health outcomes. This session will help you:
Understand what health literacy means
Know how health literacy affects health outcomes
Recognise the signs someone is experiencing high demands on their health literacy
Learn some practical ways to support individual health literacy
This workshop is suitable for anyone whose work includes supporting service users to manage or resolve a health issue. This training is designed for community workers and early-career health workers living or working in the Australian Capital Territory.
You are welcome to bring your lunch to this session. We recognise Zoom can be tiring and there will be breaks and activities to help you stay engaged.
