    Event description

Identify strategies that support the unique needs of cross-border students

Cross-border students are a steadily growing cohort of students that include international learners, new settlers, and refugee-background learners. Developing tailored practice for these students is an Education Code of Practice obligation and essential for learner success.

This one day symposium will offer practical strategies, tips and tools that are highly relevant to tertiary education providers and schools with diverse student bodies that include cross-border learners.

    Themes include:

    • Enhancing the cross-border learner experience (Vivienne Anderson, Dean - College of Education, University of Otago)
    • Nurturing intercultural competency development across campus (Jonie Chang, Lead Advisor - Wellbeing, University of Canterbury)
    • Introducing innovations in homestay host training (Lisa Garrett, International Department Manager, Avonside Girls’ High School)
    • Developing student ambassadors as intercultural connectors (Greg Scott, Director Accommodation Services, University of Canterbury)
    • Empowering International Students from Recruitment to Graduation panel (Janelle Blythe, Lincoln University, Aimee Salubre, University of Canterbury and Andy Ge, Ara Institute of Canterbury)
