    Supporting Cultural Diversity in Healthcare Workshop

    OVERVIEW

    Western Australia enjoys one of the most culturally diverse populations in Australia. To assist healthcare workers and providers deliver services that are equitable, the Health Consumers’ Council has developed this workshop to enable health workers to provide culturally inclusive services that support patient-centered care.  

    This workshop is aimed at clinicians such as nurses, nurse coordinators and allied health professionals as well as other healthcare workers such as administration and support staff and it may also be of interest to consumer representatives. 

    To date we have only been able to offer this workshop to WA Health staff only and it's always oversubscribed with waitlist. For the first time we are offering to any public or private healthcare providers in Australia.

    The workshop will be conducted in our training room at our office in Mt Lawley. Free parking is available, and a light lunch will be provided.

    WORKSHOP CONTENT:

    • Recognise potential barriers people may have in accessing health services
    • Increase understanding of cultural competency
    • Increase awareness of own culture and attitude towards cultural difference
    • Understand unconscious bias an it's impact
    • Gain knowledge and sensitivity of different cultural practice
    • Explore ability to use cross-cultural skills
    • Discuss strategies to increase service accessibility
    • Deliberate strategies to deliver a culturally competent service
