Designed and taught by leading academics in Translation & Interpreting Studies and the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Hub, the course equips participants with foundational knowledge and practical resources to support interpreting in sexual violence service settings. Training includes video presentations, situated learning tasks, ethical scenarios, glossary-building activities, reflections, discussion forums and quizzes to support learning. It explores key areas including:
Understanding sexual violence and its contexts, including terminology
Barriers to disclosure and reporting, including myths and community attitudes around sexual violence
Building interpreting skills (including ethics) for complex and sensitive environments
Interpreter wellbeing and self-care in sexual violence contexts
