This 90-minute webinar will offer practical information to help build your confidence in understanding why social opportunities can add extra demands, pressure, and challenges to any activity for many neurodivergent students. Where some students may find social breaks to be a chance to recharge and group work to enhance learning, many neurodivergent students need us to careful consider the complexities and challenges of socialising during the school day. We will be talking about how to separate social development from other learning, add ourselves into play to scaffold opportunities, and ensure that we are valuing neurodivergent ways of playing and connecting. The double empathy problem will be foundational to this webinar.

Presenter Bio

Shannon Hennig is a registered speech-language therapist who specialises in neurodiversity, inclusive education practice, assistive technology, and communication challenges. She has wealth of knowledge around how to support young people with language and communication needs. She previously has worked as a teaching aide herself and has 20 years of experience working in classrooms in both primary and secondary. She is known for providing informative PLD content that emphasises practical strategies that can immediately be put into practice.
