Discover the fascinating world of Australia’s solitary native bees and learn simple ways you can support them in your own backyard.

Join Kelly Lees and Anna Scobie for a relaxed, hands-on afternoon at the Urban Hum Tiny Forest in Cardiff Heights. We’ll explore the incredible diversity of our native bees, the habitat they need and how small changes in our gardens can make a big difference.

You’ll also have the opportunity to make your own mudbrick bee hotel, designed to provide nesting habitat for native bees including Blue-banded Bees and Teddy Bear Bees. Learn how these beautiful solitary bees use mud and natural materials to create their nests, and how you can provide safe nesting spaces at home.

We’ll explore:

• Native solitary bees and their fascinating life cycles

• Bee-friendly plants and providing year-round food

• Creating nesting and shelter habitat

• How to make a mudbrick bee hotel

• Simple ways to make your backyard more welcoming for pollinators

Early Dinner & Community

After the workshop, we’ll share an early dinner together, providing time to relax, connect and chat with other local nature lovers.

Please bring:

• A plate of food to share

• A hat and comfortable outdoor shoes

Kelly Lees is passionate about educating about native bees, Anna Scobie is passionate about urban biodiversity and creating welcoming habitat for wildlife. Through Urban Hum & The Groundswell Collective, they have worked to connect people with pollinators and demonstrate how gardens and community spaces can become important refuges for native species.
