Expert Evidence and Bail Applications

The session will examine:
The recently amended Supreme Court Practice Direction 14 of 2024, dealing with expert evidence in criminal proceedings; and
A new procedure for all bail and dangerous prisoner applications in the Supreme Court.
Given PD 14/24 applies to indictments presented on or after 15 July last year, its operation is now coming into full effect.
The new procedure for bail and dangerous prisoner applications will commence on 27 January 2026.
The seminar will involve contributions from panelists from the Supreme Court, the DPP (Cth), the DPP (Qld), the Public Defender, the Bar Association of Queensland, the Queensland Law Society and the forensic science community, and will conclude with a Q. and A.
