Event description

IDAHOBIT 2025

International day against LGBTQIA+ discrimination

IDAHOBIT is an international celebration of advancements in LGBTQIA+ equality – a  celebration of how far we’ve come.

It is also an opportunity to recognise that in 2025, LGBTQIA+ people in Australia still experience disproportionate rates of bullying, harassment and discrimination.

Surf Coast Shire Council invites you to show your support for our LGBTQIA+ community and stand with us against discrimination:

Participate in our IDAHOBIT Community Art Project!

Express what you love about your community and show your support for our LGBTQIA+ community by sharing a message, drawing or painting on a paper leaf which will be  used to create a series of Rainbow Trees for display around the shire.

You can decorate a paper leaf at the rainbow flag raising event on 15 May (details below), or we can send you a template to print yourself. Register to receive the template by clicking ‘Get Tickets’ and ticking the ‘community artwork’ option.

Rainbow Tree launch and Rainbow Flag raising

The Rainbow Trees will be launched as part of our Rainbow Flag raising event at Surf Coast Shire Council’s Torquay office. We will also hear from  members of our LGBTQIA+ community about what IDAHOBIT means to them.

Date: 15 May 2025

Time: 10am-11:30am

Where: Outside Surf Coast Shire Council Office, 1 Merrijig Drive, Torquay

Who: All members of our LGBTQIA+ community and allies are warmly invited to join us.

We are committed to ensuring everyone can participate in this event. Please note the flag raising will be held on a grassy area. Hearing loops and noise cancelling headphones are available on request. If you have any access or support needs please make a note when registering or contact us on 03 5261 0600 to discuss further.
