Event description

Surfing USSR (with extra special guests) play Space Academy Thursday 23th of March as part of the 03 Sessions, a series showcasing local and touring musicians.

Surfing USSR play surf versions of Eastern European folk, klezmer and anything else they felt like dealing to. For this show the plan is to include some space themed numbers in keeping with the venue so come and hear the music of the future and see if you wanna go there!

“Throughout the years the, ‘anything else we feel like dealing to’ has grown and Surfing USSR are heading more towards exotica, sometimes adding violin and extra percussion” said Malcolm.

This performance will be even more spectacular than usual with the inclusion of extra special guests Emma Johnston vocals and Jenny Ward on vocals and small toys and John Chrisstoffels on theremin.

For this show Surfing USSR will feature:
Greg Malcolm on guitar,
Marc Howe on bass,
Anita Clark on violin
Reece Mcnaughten on drums

And extra special guests:
Emma Johnston on vocals
Jenny Ward on vocals and small toys
John Chrisstoffels on theremin

Their unique approach stylistically ranges from surf to bad trip psychedelica. “We explore the melodies and give them a new voice and sound,” stated Greg Malcolm, the group's guitarist. Surfing USSR twang guitar instrumentals interlaced with Eastern European folk tunes and space age exotica.
