OCEAN LOVERS TALKS - SURVIVING THE BEACH
The beach is at the heart of Australian culture and millions of us love to relish in its beauty. But, before you hit the sand, join us to talk about how you and your loved ones can stay safe on Australia's beaches this year.
Steven Pearce is the Chief Executive Officer Surf Life Saving NSW, a gazetted emergency service within NSW emergency management arrangements and is the peak body for coastal aquatic rescue in NSW. SLSNSW comprises over 76000 volunteers and 1000 full-time and casual staff. Steven joined SLSNSW in 2017 and has an extensive 31-year background in emergency services, political relationships and emergency and crisis management, having worked for Fire Rescue NSW, the NSW State Emergency Service and consulting to major corporate organizations to in crisis and emergency management preparation.
Felicity MacArthur moved to Australia 10 years ago, having been a Pool and Lake Lifeguard, but knowing nothing of the Ocean. She undertook her Bronze Medallion at Bondi Surf Club and was instantly hooked. A Physiotherapist by-day, her skills assist her in the knowledge and application of First Aid and Spinal Management to members of the public. She developed her Ocean swimming and surf skills over the years, going on to compete at Branch, NSW State (2nd), and Australian titles in “Champion Lifesaving” (4th)-a heptathalon event of running, swimming, board paddling, CPR, and lifesaving knowledge! She led “Access Bondi” which provides Beach Matting and wheelchairs for everyone to access the beach at Bondi, as well as setting up “Dippers”, and accessible Nippers programme for children with Autism. She moved onto the Board in 2021, being the second female Deputy President of Bondi Surf Club. Felicity continues to lead her patrol as Patrol Captain of Jeppessen Patrol, with 34 members, looking after the beach with as many people as 30,000 beach-goers.
